Rory Peck Trust provides assistance grants

Rory Peck Trust provides assistance grants

May 20, 2015

The Rory Peck Trust provides individual grants to freelance journalists and their families who find themselves in a critical situation. This may include freelancers who have been threatened, imprisoned, injured, forced into hiding or exile, or killed.

How we help

Our assistance grants are modest but they are targeted so that they meet the specific needs of the freelancer or family.  Amounts and target areas vary according to the particular circumstances of the applicant but examples include medical and rehabilitation costs, emergency subsistence, legal advice, and relocation costs.  Our aim is to help grantees overcome a crisis and, where possible, resume work.

We work closely with an international network of partners and where relevant, we will co-ordinate with them and refer applicants for specific advice and expertise, specialist needs or additional funds.

How to apply

If you are a freelancer or family in a critical situation, please contact the Trust directly on Tel: + 44 (0) 20 3219 7860+ 44 (0) 20 3219 7860 or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you are eligible for a grant, we will send you an application form.  Please note these are not available online. Your application will be assessed in detail and all information treated in the strictest confidence.  You may want to ask a trusted person or organisation to help you to complete the form if needed.

Although the Trust is set up to respond to emergency situations, this process usually takes from one to several weeks, during which time one of our researchers will work with you to find out how our financial support can best help you and make the most impact on your situation.

Application forms are available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian.
