Mazar-e-sharif, Balkh province- The Afghanistan Journalists Center condemned an attack today on a cultural center and office of the news agency Afghan Voice, in Mazar-e-Sharif, capital of Balkh province. At least two persons were killed and 30 others including 16 journalists were wounded in the attack.
The explosion occurred at the Tabian Farhang center, also uses as the office of the AVA news agency in the second police district of Mazar-e Sharif, as journalists gathered for the award event marking National Journalists Day at 11:56 a.m., said a journalist who was wounded in the attack.
The reporter said that a number of religious clerics, cultural figures, and local officials also participated in the conference.
The Afghan Voice news agency reported that the explosion occurred due to a bomb that was placed in the event. According to the report, at least three persons were killed and more than 30 others were wounded in the attack.
A local source told the AFJC that at least 16 journalists were wounded in the attack, and some are in critical condition.
AFJC said:” “We strongly condemn the attack and call on authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice at once and to put in place all possible means to limit the risks.”
