A new independent weekly has hit newsstands in the western city of Herat.
The first issue of Afghanistan-e-Emroz (Today's Afghanistan) in black and white contains political, social and cultural articles.
The weekly journal is supported by the Mediothek office with Mohayuddin Noori as its editor in chief.
Abdul Basir Tahsin, head of the Mediothek Office, said in the ceremony on the occasion of publishing of the first issue of the journal that they intend to turn Afghanistan-e-Emroz a nationally-distributed weekly soon.
Mr Noori said the publication will stick to journalistic standards and the media law of Afghanistan.
Herat has seen a considerable boom in media outlets since a decade. Six private TV channels, 10 radio stations, a news agency, 40 print outlets and nine news websites are operating from the province currently.
