New radio station goes on air in Herat

A new privately run radio has gone on air in the western city of Herart.

Zindagi Radio started its experimental transmission today with a coverage area of 40 kilometers around the city reaching Gozra, Enjil and parts of Kurkh and Adraskan districts.

Qasim Abullahi, director of the radio, said the station will broadcast programs on a variety of issues, such as social, economical, political, cultural and religious topics.

He said the station was run by 16 paid and voluntary workers.

Herart has seen a rise in private independent media outlets over the past eight years with over a dozen radio stations, several television channels and dozens of print outlets.
